Received Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error!

I currently am running Microsoft Word 2002 (10.5815.4219) SP-2 , part of Office XP. For the past few months I have been receiving the following error message which when OK is clicked terminates Word

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error
Program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EX
abnormal program terminatio

I then try to re-run word and it says that the normal template has changed and do I want to automatically load it

Again, this has happened MANY times and I can not get any answers from Gateway. I also checked under Tools>>Templates and Add-Ins and the only thing in there is the Document template which is the Normal.dot template. There is nothing listed under Global templates and add-ins section. My Macro Security level is set to Medium.

I have no idea what else it could be that is causing this issue and need HELP!! I do not have any viruses on my computer (thankfully!). Please please PLEASE help!

I was having the same problem and this is what I did and
it solved the problem.

SYMPTOMS
When you try to quit Microsoft Word or close a Word
document, you may receive an error message that is
similar to the following:

MS Visual C ++ Runtime Library Runtime Error!
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Winword.EXE

CAUSE
This problem may occur if the Works in Word Suite Add-in
is installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, remove the Works in Word Suite
Add-in. To do this, follow these steps.

After you remove the Works in Word Suite Add-in, Word may
not be available from the Works Task Launcher.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft
Windows, the following steps may be different on your
computer. If they are, see your product documentation to
complete these steps.

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
Click Works in Word Suite Add-in, and then click
Change/Remove.
Click OK to confirm the removal.
Click Close.
Restart your computer.
