Receiving Atlantic Broadband emails through a verizon server in OL

I know this topic has been covered several times here but I am still a little
confused. I use Atlantic Broadband at home and use them for my email service;
at work they use Verizon as their service provider. Since I am an independent
contractor I use my own email address @atlanticbb.net. When setting up my
email accounts in Outlook 2007 I am able to receive emails but not send. I
have called both service providers and after spending atleast 45 minutes on
the phone with each of them neither are able to fix the problem and just
blame the other one. Anyone out there who has successfully set this up
accessing atlantic broadband emails through verizon server? If so, I would
greatly appreciate your expertise.

Verizon has begun blocking outbound port 25 to off-network access. If your
Atlantic Broadband provider offers SMTP message submission access using
either port 465, or port 587 (or some other designated port) you should
configure access through that designated message submission port. Otherwise,
you will have to send through the Verizon SMTP message submission server.

Yes tech support from both Atlanticbb and Verizon had me try enabling
authentication and try various ports. I am hoping someone else has had a
similar issue and can tell me exactly how they resolved it.

From a command prompt, try using 'telnet' to access the SMTP server. Post
the output of the session here.

Okay. As somebody whose DSL service is provisioned by ATTIS, which company
does block outbound port 25, and who does use third party email services, I
can only tell you what should work, based on my experience. Third party SMTP
message submission service does work with the ports specified by the third
party email services. So, if you are properly set up according to Verizon,
and the third party email service, then the service should work. If it does
not work, it is certainly not the client, and almost certainly not the ISP,
or third party service provider.
