receiving mails stops every night

Im the mail administrator in our company and just recently i was having
problems with one of my client which in turn to be our COO. He's problem is
every night he stops receiving mails so every morning as i go to the office i
have to restart the server or the services. This is happening for three
consecutive days. Is there any other way to solve his problems? by the he's
using outlook 2003 sp1 over an Exchange 5.5 server.

Can you clarify this a bit... does restarting the server/services mean that
you are restarting the Exchange server or the users workstation? Second, do
you have Outlook installed on the Exchange server? Third, what service pack
is Exchange 5.5 at and on what operating system + service pack? Fourth,
have you applied any of the post sp4 patches to the Exchange server that
deals with issues introduced by using Outlook 2003 as a client to an
Exchange 5.5 server?

Restarting the server.
Server: Exchange 5.5 SP4 (Build 2653.23) on NT4 Sp6a
Client: Outlook 2004 on WinXp Pro Sp1

Okay... take a look in you event logs. Do you see any entries showing an
internmittent crashes when backing up your Exchange information store? If
so, you should really be looking at the following patches for Exchange 5.5
