Recently used files list dissappears

I am using MS Office 2004 for Mac on a 466M G4 with OS X 10.3.8 with
1.25G RAM. The recently use files list occasionally dissappears from
Excel when I open it. This does not happen with Word. Any ideas?

Are you doing anything with your preferences file?

The MRU list is stored in the file

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:com.microsoft.Excel.prefs.plist

(where ~ is your home directory).

I haven't touched the pref's file. The MRU list begins rebuilding as I
open docs but occasionally just spontaneously disappears. BTW, I have
been using Excel since version 1.

In that case, and assuming you've reset disk permissions, I'd trash that
pref file (with XL closed), empty the trash, and restart XL. It may be
that the file was corrupted.
