Recently Used Fonts Display

–dash

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

In Word 2004, when using the pulldown font menu in the taskbar, there was always at the top of the list of fonts a group of the ones I had most recently used.

That seems to be gone in 2008. Although the Font Collections Menu is nice, I like the recently used fonts at top. Is there any preference to restore this?

Not sure what to tell you... I've installed the update on a PPC running
Tiger (10.4.11) as well as a MBP running Leopard (10.5.0) & the recently
used fonts appear as expected near the top of the font list in both the
Formatting Toolbar font list as well as the one on the Formatting Palette of
both systems.

Try restarting your Mac to see if clearing the font cache makes a
difference.

Same issue here (PPC, Tiger). Recent fonts are there _as long as the
application is open_. Quit it and they vanish.

Followup: After applying the 12.1.0 update, recent fonts display in
either palette still does not survive an application restart. Has
anyone else noticed this?

Now that you mention it I can confirm your findings, but hadn't noticed for
at least two reasons:

1- I rarely use the Font list to change fonts. I rely almost exclusively on
Styles for that purpose, &

2- On those occasions when I do use the Font List it's because I'm after a
font that I *haven't* used recently & probably don't use very often... if I
did it would be evoked by one of my Styles.

You use Styles, I use Styles, 90% of users never have and never will
use Styles.

Do you want to do the honors, or shall I? ;-)

*So*, so true, Patricia!!

But only 90% haven't? ;-)

The excuses offered by people who want to type up something longer than a
Letter to Mum/Mom and won't go near styles to do it are limitless.

But you know that...

Ahem, that'll be Patricio, as in I have a wife and a beard and I sing
bass. :)

Patrick is English for Patricio.

Ah, sorry about that, Patricio! Ironically, when fully conscious I well
recall your name; it's good that you use it.

I plead that at this side of the pond I have only just woken up.

It often shows...

And in future I will remember your beard too!

Cheers,

Clive
