you may also try the =countit function.
Assumeing that you have a list of the salemen. next to
each name enter =countif(a2:a5000."salemen's name")

I know enough to be dangerous .... meaning, my Excel (can
you say Lotus 1-2-3?) knowledge is limited to functions,
and not VB scripting.
Is there some other tool/function within Excel that
performs analysis on text values just like the Tools\Data
Analysis\Histogram function does on numeric data?
In simplest form, my spreadsheet has 5000 "records"
(rows), with each record representing a sales
transaction. Field/Column A is the sales reps unique
alpha (i.e. non-numeric) ID. Sample below.
