Record Deleted error, cannot compact and repair

I am suddenly getting "record deleted" errors when I try to run queries. I
can look at the table and see the records are there.
When I try to run a compact and repair I get the following "Microsoft Access
has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience."
Any suggestions?

Your database is evidently badly corrupted; I hope you have a backup!
Do other databases (the Northwind sample database for example) work?

You may need to create a new database and import all the objects from
this one. Some of the objects may not import (they're the corrupted
ones). Good luck...
