recording macros

Hi,

I am new to word vba programming. I am familiar with excel vba
programming. I am trying to record a macro. After I start recording,
there is some kind of frowny face attached to the mouse pointer. I can
access menus but can't select or insert. What am I doing wrong?

The "frowny face" is supposed to look like a tape cassette ("recording", get it?).

During macro recording, many mouse actions are disabled, and some that aren't disabled just aren't recorded. Don't rely on the mouse for anything except choosing items on menus or ribbons (depending
on what Word version you're using). Instead, stick to keyboard shortcuts, arrow keys, and the like.

Once you've recorded a macro, read http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/ModifyRecordedMacro.htm for a rundown of some of the things you may have to fix to get the result you want.
