Records switching

I have a database that is around 20k records and I am having a major problem
with it. We use a specific number to reference each number but lately these
specific numbers have been somehow switching themselves to other records. I
have no idea how this happened but its becoming rather frustrating. I read
that access has some sort of problem with this and I had the IT staff update
everyone's office to the highest SP but I do not know if that has fixed the
problem. We are still finding records with the wrong numbers. Any suggestions
on what’s happening?

Sounds like you are referring to the records counter at the bottom of the
form. These are not the number assigned to the record. They are just a
convenience label on the way they just happen to fall out of the table this
time.

Now if you are talking about Autonumbers, I have not heard of these changing
but that they may be out of sequence sometimes like 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12,
13, etc.

Do you have a field you are using for numbering and it is now corupt?

Its more or less a policy number. They are specific to the record themselves.
But lately they have somehow been switch around to other records. Like one
day Policy A is 45555 and B is 55555 they switch or A turns to 55555 and B
doesn't have a number at all. But all the workers claim they do not touch the
numbers.

Where is this being display? Is it this way in the table, query, form, or
report?

Its a form and its tabbed. Personally I did not create this database as a
whole. Any helped would be great though since its in a way baffling me. I've
worked a lot with access but I've never experienced this. I am wondering if
it has to do with the tabs since we have another thats nearly the same size
but a completely different setup. It has been more revamped then this one and
it has never done anything like this.

Do you have subforms on the tabs and if so do you have the Master/Child link
set?

Yeah.. they are linked right. this database has been working good up until
around 2 months ago when this happened. But I wasn't the one adding anything
to it for the past 3 to 4 months since I did not have much time.

I have run out of ideas unless your forms allow editing of that field and
someone is trying to enter a number to search for and revises the content.
