recover lost word files

My Compaq Presario 900 crashed today. Had to use recovery
disk to restore to factory condition. I lost some very
valuable WORD files for school that I'd like to
recover...I know I should have backed them up on CD's. I
don't care much for the other lost stuff, I'd just like
to recover the WORD files. Is there anyway to back
things up so that I could recover the lost files?

Thanks,
Tamika

Assuming you didn't reformat the disk, the Word files should still be on
your hard drive. have you done a Window search for them?

Nothing is there. Everything is fresh. My C drive is
almost empty. All my settings gone everything

Then you would have to buy some expensive disk recovery software that can
inspect the residue on your hard disk to get your files back. I don't like
your chances.

Compaq recovery CDs (in common with other manufacturers recovery disks)
reformats the hard disk in the recovery operation. Unfortunately, it would
require a data recovery expert to get back your documents and would be very
expensive.
