recover mail from another hard drive

My winxp install crashed the other day and I'm reloading
on another hardrive. I've installed outlook on the new
os/hard drive but I can't figure out how to recover my
email from the other outlook install. I've done this
before, but the .pst file I found from my last re-install
only contains email over a year old. It's as if I hadn't
sent any email on the previous install. Any
suggestions? I'm a home user and my email isn't stored
on a network; I work right through comcast's pop3
accounts. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Turn on searching hidden/system files and search again. It sounds like you
found your archive.pst file - your real .pst file is a hidden file.

Hi Paul,

I am certainly no expert, but my guess would be that you found the
wrong PST File.

I would suggest searching the old disk for *.PST (again if you have
already done it) and I suspect that you will find more than one file.

HTH,
I did a search and found only two .pst files on the old
disk. I checked the modified dates on both and chose the
one that was modified the most recently. The other was
the .pst that I used as a starting point for that os
load. The one I chose was slightly larger, and had been
modified as recently as last week. When I imported
the .pst file it only showed mail that was over a year
old. Both .pst files seem to contain the same email, but
I can't seem to get the email from the last year. I
haven't done any type of backup or archive in the last
year. What I'm wondering is- does outlook hold
information in another file until you archive or backup?
Where could those emails be if they aren't in the .pst
file? Thanks for the help Kenneth.
Paul
ps I added spamless to my email, should I not be posting
with my real email?

Hi Paul,

First, the thing that I know about:

If you post to Usenet with your real email address you will receive
more spam than you can imagine.

Next:

About the Outlook problem. I know very little about it. Fortunately,
others who do know will (and are already providing) help.

All the best,
