If you had AutoRecovery backup enabled and had been working on the document
longer than the interval specified, Word *may* present the backup the next
time you start Word. If it doesn't, you're pretty much sunk. If your system
is set to download Windows updates and install them automatically, and a
reboot is required to install the updates, AU is quite cavalier about
closing down all running programs (ignoring all prompts) and losing your
work.
