My personal folder in Outlook 2000 went over 2G yesterday, and I
couldn't open it.
I found this forum and read the 10-21-03 post titled "Personal Folders"
by Mike, and followed the instructions that he said worked for him
(http://www.slipstick.com/problems/repair2gbpst.htm).
First, I downloaded and ran PST2GB.exe, let it truncate my .pst, then
ran SCANPST.exe. Doing this, I was able to recover all but the last 10
days of activity, however it also erased all of the email addresses out
of my contacts.
Then I tried using a hex editor to see if I could do any better by
taking the data out of the middle of the PST manually. (The iHex
freeware mentioned at slipstick seemd to be a viewer, so I ended up
using Hackman freeware from ZDNet.) Then I ran SCANPST. exe on the
hacked copy of my PST. It appeared to repair the file (I didn't get any
error messages), however when I open it in Outlook all the data is
invisible. So I have a 1.5+G file with 7,000+ items in the Inbox with
invisible data, and zero contacts.
Can anyone shed some light on my dilemma? (Of course I saved the
original PST.)
Thanks!
