Recovering a File

I was editing a file for several hours (fortunately saved a few times).
Word crashes.

I open the file again and it does not automatically recover.

I go to the application data directory and find the recovery file.

I try to open it using the file open dialog.

I get an error that says

"The document name or path is not valid. Try these suggestions
* Check file permissions... (No problem)
* Use the file to locate the document... (Done - its there.)"

What should i do now?
