Recovering file only saved to disk

I know that Word generates temp files and backs up a file
that you have open. Here's what I did: I had a document
open for a few hours without saving it, then I saved it
directly to a 3 1/2-inch floppy disk. Turns out later the
disk had bad sectors on it and I couldn't open the file
from several computers. I was wondering if there is a
place I could look in on my computer where there might be
a temporary file of this document still.

If you saved and closed the file in a controlled manner, then all the temp
files are removed. What you have learnt is that you should never under any
circumstances work directly with a floppy disk. Always save to your local
hard drive and then COPY to the floppy (and vice versa). Not only are
floppies unreliable, but Word creates a temp file in the active folder (the
floppy in this case) and if the floppy is bad or has insufficient space it
will corrupt the document and often crash Word too.
