Recovering old emails from a prior installation

Recently I had to reformat my hard drive, but failed to
export all my emails from Outlook before doing so. I did,
however, back up the original MS Office directory to a
separate drive, however upon reinstalling Office, when I
tried to recover the old emails by simply copy and pasting
the original directory over the new one, I didn't get
those emails back.
Is there any way that I can recover those, or are they
lost for good?

They are gone for good. Outlook stores all its items in a pst-file. When you
do a search for it on your harddrive make sure you include hidden and system
files/folders.

Please also note that just copying your old install directory over the new
one doesn't do anything and most likely will lead to corruption of the
program and/or operating system.

Hope this helps!
