Recurring major daemon problems

S

Simon Pollock

My Entourage hangs every day now for around 20 minutes. In the Activity
Monitor window Database daemon is highlighted in red. When this has finished
Entourage crashes and the only way to make it work is to reboot the
computer. I have deleted both com.microsoft.AlertsDaemon.plist and
com.microsoft.OfficeNotifications.plist in the preference folder and turned
off office notifications.

What else can I do? I am sure that a database rebuild would help but I use
my Entourage with Exchange and I gather that after a rebuild all categories
are lost.

Please help!!

When I need to rebuild my database, I use scripts to back up and later
restore the categories.
The scripts are described here:

Have you excluded your Identity in Spotlight Privacy window?

The actual indexing is done from the files in
~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Microsoft/Entourage, so the private/indexable
status of the MUD folder isn't relevant.
