Recurring Projects

One of my projects is overseeing the printing of a newsletter every month. I
have certain tasks assigned from content creation to publishing
This project happens every month, do I make each month a separate project
(if so can I copy my current project) or do have one project and recurring
tasks.
Any ideas?

Hello fruitchunk,

You could certainly copy the project using the operating system or save
the proejct under a new name with File > Save As. Change the start date
of the project (Project > Project Information) and you are off and
running.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I copied the tasks and subtasks, but it doesn't allow me to change the start
date for next month

Hi,

Okay, I guess I didn't understand what you want to do. Did you set up
your tasks as recurring tasks? (Insert recurring task). Did you type in
dates for the tasks.

If you typed in dates or used recurring tasks, the tasks are constrained
so if you copy and paste to a new project, the constraints go with them.
If you typed in dates, you'll need to remove the constraints by
selecting all the tasks and setting the constraint type back to As Soon
As Possible. (Use the task information button on the standard toolbar
to be able to change multiple tasks.)

If you used recurring tasks, you should be able to double click on the
summary recurring task and change the range of recurrance information.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

The other possibility is that you have marked some or all of these
tasks as done or in progress. Until you clear out all actuals, the
tasks won't automatically reschedule when you change the project start
date.

For this reason, when I do multiple similar projects, I create a
template with just the tasks, links and the resources, but no actuals.
Then each time I start a new project, I open the template, save under
a different file name, then change the project start date.

Hope this helps in your world.
