Recurring Tasks

How do you schedule a recurring task that happens monthly but not at a set
interval. Its monthly when the Director of Finance is free.

Thanks!

hi,

While creating the recurring task you can select the Calendar of the
“Director of Financeâ€. You should assign a Calendar for the Director of
Finance to maintain his or her schedule. Recurring task will be automatically
adjusted as the Resource Calendar is updated.

The Calendar option in the Recurring task dialogue, specifies a calendar for
a task. By default, tasks are scheduled based on the working time of the
project calendar and of resources assigned by their working times. If the
option is set to None, then the task is scheduled based on the project
calendar and on the calendars of any assigned resources. If you apply a base
calendar to a task, as well as resource calendars to the resources assigned
to the task, the task is scheduled during the working time that the task
calendar and the resources have in common.

There's really no way to do that for a couple of reasons. First, the very
definition of a "recurring task" is one that occurs at some defined regular
interval. It does't have to be once a week or once a month - it could be
every 3 weeks or every Tuesday and Thursday or every other Wednesday but
whatever it is it is regular. Secondly and even more fundamental, it is
implicit in the definition of a "task" that it has a concrete, observable
start and end date & time. You may only know it tentatively and need to
revise it later when more information becomes available but the start and
end are always clearly defined points in time - it can't be "Task X starts
sometime between Monday and Friday" in other words. You might initially
find Task X is schedule to start Tuesday at 10:37am and later it gets
revised to something else but it will always one single precise point.

hi,

The recurring tasks automatically adjusts by notifying about the conflict
with the calendar. For example if you have a recurring monthly task that
occurs say every Tuesday and the resource calendar shows that the resource is
not available on a particular Tuesday then, Microsoft Project will notify
this and will adjust the task for the next available date for the resource
for that particular Tuesday. Recurring tasks get adjusted whenever the
related Calendar is adjusted.

Recurring tasks take into account the Calendar.

Haris.

That may be but that was not the question posed. She asked how to have a
task that occurs once a month but at a date and time determined on the fly
at the convenience of the resource doing it. In other words, at the time
the task is entered she doesn't know what the resource's calendar will be.
