Reduce Height of Cross References

R

Rod Morrell

The grey background area of an inserted cross reference
has a height greater than the font of the text cross
reference and the rest of the line, and causes the line of
text to have more spacing between it and the lines
immediately above and below it than the line spacing of
the rest of the paragraph. Thus a line with a cross
reference in it has inconsistent before and after spacing
and it doesn't look right visually.

How do I control the height of the inserted cross
reference background and thus the spacing of the line it
is within?

The "background" (field shading) is not what's causing the problem, as that
is just an artifact that can be turned off (View tab of Tools | Options).
Presumably the cross-reference itself is in a larger font size. You should
be able to control this with a \* charformat switch or by just formatting it
directly. You can also set the line spacing to an Exact amount.
