In PP for windows there is a button to reduce the file size of added images, as shown here:

How does one do the same in Office for mac?

Hi,

In Mac PowerPoint you can right-click or control-click on an image and
choose Save As Picture. Choose a picture type (JPEG is a favorite) and
then save the file. Delete the current picture in the presentation and
insert the saved copy.

Jim's suggestion may help, but it provides absolutely no control over the
resulting output other than image file format. The direct answer to your
question is that Mac PPT does not have that feature. IMHO, it doesn't really
need it -- images are best dealt with if they are properly processed using
an image editing app [i.e., Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, etc. -- even
iPhoto] in order to set the resolution, color mode & print dimensions before
they're inserted into *any* kind of file. Leaving it up to some other type
of program's "convenience features" is a recipe for disappointment if not
disaster.

and it reduces the physical size of the image. This means that if i use the replace option on the right click menu, that it does not fit any effects that i have added.

It's only a work-around. Be sure to send a request to Microsoft to
include the feature you desire. Use the Help menu's feedback option to
write to Microsoft.

Thanks.

That's why I suggested what I did :) Even the Win PPT feature you referred
to isn't much better at preserving image quality.
