Reduce image size for Word

Mercedes King

Our company logo was created in Photoshop and when I paste
it into Word (or Excel), the file size is huge.
I have tried flatening the image in Photoshop and reducing
the pixels per inch and although this has made a
difference, my word/excel files become really bulky after
pasting the logo in.
Is there some rule of thumb re what file format to save
the image in and/or the pixels per inch to use (or
whatever else) when you want to add an image to Word files
without reducing the quality of the image but also without
making your Word files unmanageable???

Would MUCH appreciate any advice on this!

Thanks
mercedes

In an exercise with jpegs, we included the graphics with
Insert > Picture > From File > .jpeg. They were 4" x 5"
graphics. There was no significant degradation of quality
going from high (900KB/photo) to mid (400KB/photo) in
Photo Editor. Typically use jpeg for photo and gif for
cartoons. I would try a gif. Being a logo, I would
expect your graphic to be a small one going in the header,
and that should be a one shot deal with low overhead.
There may be various compression schemes available in your
source to tinker with.
