reduced functionality mode

I have a client with Office xp installed on one of their systems, and they
let the 50 uses go by without activating the product. If I go to
help>activate it doesn't give me a prompt to enter the cd key, and the next
button is greyed out. I've tried uninstalling and resintalling, but it
didn't help (as I suspected). Anybody have any idea's that don't include
formatting to get this product to activate?

After hours on the phone with Microsoft yesterday, I got nothing solved other
than Microsoft gave me the link to a windows installer cleaner. The only
idea that I have is that we copied the client's copy to their server, so we
could install it on whatever syste we needed without physically having the cd
in hand. Does anybody know if installing office from a hard disk copy of the
cd could affec the way windows update works?
