Reducing resolution (i.e. file size) of scanned signature in Word

I scanned a signature awhile ago into bmp and pasted it into some Microsoft
Word letters that I fax and email. The file size with just the signature and
no text is 586 kb, which is above the limit that some services' websites
allow. They're unreasonable, I know, but considering that's the equivalent of
about 22 pages, it would be nice to reduce the resolution and file size.
Rescanning and using photoshop or something similar is an option, but I'd
prefer something much quicker and simpler. Any suggestions?

Cut it. Edit-->Paste special, as a picture (try the different options and
check the file size again, they'll all likely do something different).

Yes! I meant to do that yesterday but totally forgot. Works great, from 586
