References to external workbooks in excel

99.9% of the time when I'm referencing a cell in another workbook, I want to
use a relative reference (e.g. C7) rather than an absolute reference (e.g.
$C$7). Is there any way to change the default in excel that uses absolute
references when refering to cells in another file?

I suppose you could use a macro but it would probably
be easier to hit F4 to cycle through the different combinations
at the location bar.

Bummer. That's what I've been doing, but it slows me down significantly. I
was hoping it was a feature that could be turned off like when excel
automatically generates the "get pivot data" formula when you reference a
cell in a pivot table.
