Referencing data and auto population

Hi there,

I want to build a workbook from scratch that will display
lists of technical specifications. Within it, I want to
create a function that will allow me to input a name
covering all the data (a whole column for example) that
will populate all the data just by using the name.

My Excel knowledge is very basic - I'm sure that this is
possible but I don't know the terminology/where to begin.

Could someone advise me as to where to start looking/any
tutorials that may help?
