refreshing shapes on page visio 2003

when I right click on a shape or the page, I get an
error: "cannot connect to the datasource. run the wizard
and relink the shape to correct the problem." I then use
the "link to database" then run the wizard to link the
shapes and page to the database. But I still get the same
error message about cannot connect to the datasource.

am I missing a step? it worked before just fine..

It seems to be a new bug introduced in Visio 2003.

(Feargal, are you still at Microsoft ? If so, perhaps you should tell the
team how your DB Wizard is supposed to work!)

I think I discovered the problem. If I have any drawn
shapes, such as a box created by the drawing tool, it
thinks it is a connected shape. But if I drag a box from a
stencil, such as the basic shapes stencil, it ignores it
and does not see it as a connected shape. It works ok, but
now I have a problem with creating any custom shapes. If I
create a custom shape I need as a graphic, it still wants
to treat it as a connected shape. Is there any way to save
the custom drawn shape, so that visio does not see it as a
connected shape.?
