Registered Converter?

[I AM TIM!]

I was working on a very important presentation, saving periodically like a
good boy, when my cat jumped up and stepped on the keyboard - DONE! Now, all
I get is a message window when I attempt to open the presentation:
"PowerPoint couldn't open <file name>. A registered converter was not found
and may need to be reinstalled." Panic is current state of mind. Can
anybody help?

Cats and keyboards...

Have you tried opening a new presentation and then importing the slides one
at a time? It will get *most* of your work back...
