registering a second copy of office xp

1. Installed Microsoft Office 2000 Premium on my original laptop
2. Upgraded it to Office xp professional.
3. 4 years on the laptop has a broken PCMCIA connection etc etc
4. So, wanted to transfer files to my new laptop and I loaded Office 2000,
then xp upgrade on to it.
5. When I try to use Excel, Word etc - I am asked to connect to the internet
to register it - but then it complains it is already registered to another
computer and I will only get 46 'shots' before it reduces functionality.
6. Is there a way around this without buying a second copy?

Did you mean connecting down the telephone line or ringing up microsoft
personnel?

Thanks for your fast reply, sorry to be a bit of a technophobe!

Spot on Bob, thanks.

Agent did try to insist I could only run it on ONE laptop and ONE desktop
computer and I would have to remove the prog from the other laptop.

I have no comment as to what I did in the next 5-10mins, but when I rang
back, I was able to complete the whole thing (successfully) by numbers
without any personnel involvement. Magic !
