registering normal.dot on another pc

I use Word 2002 (Windows/Office XP). I have a setting I like on another PC
(Word 2002 and office xp) and I would like to copy the same settings on
another pc. Previously I copied "normal.dot" into another pc and this
worked. However there is no file called "normal.dot" on Office XP. There is
a file called Ennormal.dot. I tried changing the name to Ennormal.dot but my
setting does not take effect. Does anyone know how I can copy settings to
another pc?

Have you tried the "Save my settings wizard" under Programs > Microsoft
Office Tools?

And there most certainly is a normal.dot on Office XP. Assuming you're using
Windows XP it will be Documents and Settings \ {Your folder} \ Application
data \ Microsoft \ Templates \ normal.dot

As others have indicated, normal.dot will be present. It is a hidden file in
the folder indicated in Tools > options > file locations > user templates.
Copy your normal.dot into that folder. Alternatively, and depending what the
setting is, you could simply open your copy of normal.dot for editing and
use the organizer to copy that setting to the new default normal.dot.

Not all settings are saved in Normal.dot. I think you'll
find an article at mvps.org/word on how to migrate settings
between computers.
