Hi Jeff,
The Activation (Registration in Office 2000)
is machine specific. If you're installing on
a different machine then the activation code
(different than the installation key) will not
work. You can install then use the telephone
activation/registration method to speak to
a Microsoft technician to explain the scenario.
If it's an OEM copy of Office 2000 you probably
won't be able to move it ot a different machine.

I purchased a legitimate copy of Office 2000 Professional
and after installation I'm asked to register the product.
The previous owner did register the product, and provided
me with the registration code #.
How do you recommend I proceed: register using the code I
was given, or send a note to Microsoft explaining the
situation?
