Registering software

Howard Kaikow

Is Office 2003 going to have its registration tied to Passport?

Requiring a Passport account to register software is an unnecessary
complication.

Although I can login to a Passport account, I cannot then register VS .NET
2003.
I would expect the same problem with Office 2003.

I have sent a message to the Passport folkes, nobody has answered.

When I then try to register VS .net 2003, I enter the passport login and I
am
then asked to login a second time, and a third tine, ..., ad infinitum.

I cannot get past the login screen.

Any solution to this issue?

I have not found a way to talk to the folkes supporting the registration
process.

Hi Howard,

Registration is a marketing process and is voluntary.

The required activation process for Office 2003
works by the same methods as Office XP.

There is/will be content on http://office.microsoft.com
that is available only when Office 2003 is detected on
the PC.

On Visual Studio you may want to also post in the
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.vstudio.setup
setup newsgroup or one of the community or support links
on http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/

Activation is the same process as in Office XP.

Marketing registration (voluntary) may be using
passport as it's part of how signing up for things
such as newsletters etc on the MS website is done.
