Regression graphs/line plots are blank or wrongly setup

When I make regression graphs/charts (line plot of a straight line) using the
regression function in Data Analysis, the plots/graphs are often just blank -
I must redo the regression and then I am usually more lucky the 2nd time and
get a plot with content in it. Why is this? Also, in Excel, Vista Office 2007
(I am used to the XP 2003 Office Excel), now the regression line plots come
out as column chart types, not xy-plots as they did in XP 2003 Excel. I tried
to set the xy-plot as "standard type plot" (there is a button for this in the
menu), but Excel does not remember this and next time I still get the useless
column diagram (not really useful for regression of a straight line, it is
impossible to see anything with columns all over the place). How can I fix
these two problems, and am I the only one experiencing them?
