Regular Project for Admin

We are currently using an 'Administrative' Project on server 2003. I am experiencing some of the frustration others have noted here (annoying e-mails, having to republish, complicated sorting, etc..) and am now considering using a standard project to manage our administrative time...I am looking for suggestions on how to best do this..

How do I assign everyone to each admin task (sick, vacation, bereavement, etc.)? Do I have to assign actual hours to everyone? Do you do this on an annual basis or just give everyone a set amount of time for each task. How do you schedule this time without it totally screwing up the available time

I think this is the way to go for us...I'm just wondering the best way to do it...any input would be appreciated

Thanks
Daryl

Create a separate project plan entitled Gone. In it,
have one task, entitled Gone, with everyone assigned to
it with no actual hours. As people are gone for whatever
HR reason, charge their actual hours to this task. (The
planned side is in the person's individual calendar).

Your project plan doesn't care why you were gone, but it
does affect your schedule variance.

You want it in a separate file, so when you are doing the
data entry, you can combine it with all of the "real"
project plans, so you only have to do data entry in one
consolidated file. however, when you send reports to the
client, you obviously don't want to include the Gone file.

My advice is to resist the urge to track the reason why,
IMHO, it's not important, only that a person is "Gone" is
important.

Hopefully this clears up what you need to do.
