Reinstall Office 2003 on Another Computer

If I uninstall Office 2003 from one computer how do I make the produc
key available for installation on another computer

You may have to call Microsoft and beg, which may or may not be
successful (in part, it depends on whether you have a retail or an OEM
version: Retail versions can legally be moved; OEM versions cannot
legally be moved, ever).

The product activation system on SOME Microsoft products resets itself
after 4 months. E.g. after 4 months since activation, the product is
treated by Microsoft as if it had never been activated, meaning that you
could reactivate it on any machine with no hassle (starting another
4-month cycle). However, I'm not sure if this is true of any versions
of Office, and, if so, which ones.

Okay, uninstall it from old system. Install it in new. When prompted to
activate over Internet or phone, select Phone. Call MS and explain to them.
They will help you the rest of the way.

Since it is a retail version, you should have no problems to re-install
on another system. You are allowed to install on two systems at any one
time without any problems. the problem only arises if you are
installing on the third machine within a period of 120 days. This is
when you need to follow "JoAnn Paules [MVP]" <[email protected]>
advice to use the phone method to activate.

It's very possible, with a retail version last activated a year ago,
that he can do an internet activation with no need to call MS.
Certainly I would try that first; he can always call MS later if
internat activation doesn't work. The activation system on many MS
products resets after 4 months.

Would the original poster please let us know what happens. Very curious.

I really wish you hadn't posted my email addy that openly. I get enough crap
in my Inbox without anyone else's help.

This puzzles me. You're complaining about someone posting your email
address, but it appears in the header of every message you post.

I really prefer not to have it in the body of a post. Like I said, I get
enough crap. Personal preference.

I understand and agree, especially with the "enough crap" part. I don't
really see, though, that you have increased exposure from having an
address repeated in the body of the post when it's right there, unaltered,
in the From header. Wouldn't it make sense to obscure it there? That
would make it unnecessary for responders to manuallly obscure it as I've
done below and would also prevent the harvesters from getting it.

Of course, obscure it in the From header.

Yes and pure laziness is to blame.

I would like to do that too! But I'm not sure how to go about it.
Can you please help me 'un'identify my email address in my header?

How do you access the newsgroups?

The method depends on your new reader. You appear to be using Outlook
Express. (I'm not, so if this isn't quite right hopefully someone else
will jump in and correct me.) If so, click Tools > Accounts > News tab,
select the account you're using for this server, and click the Properties
button. In the Properties box, go to the General tab. You'll see the
name, organization, and email address being used for your posts. Edit to
suit and them click OK, then Close.
