Reinstall Word 2004?

I rushed to buy and install MS Office 2008. I have not used it much at
all since I have it on my new MacBook Pro and continue to use 2004 on
my PowerPC at work. But soon I plan to set up my laptop to be my main
computer hooked up to a 20 inch display. I now worry about 2008 being
trouble free. Largely due to reading the discussions here. (More
trouble I do not need.) Should I just grin and bare it or reinstall
2004 and forget about 2008 for now. And will Word 2004 continue to
work fine on the Intel processor? Also should I uninstall 2008 or can
I have both 2008 and 2004 on the same computer?
Thanks in advance for you help,
Steve

Hi Steve -

Last point first: 2008 & 204 run fine side-by-side, just pick which version
of Entourage you want to use [if you use it at all] then *don't run* the
other version. You can (and probably should) leave both installed, but
remove the Dock icon for the one you don't use. And make sure that the
Office 2004 Test Drive is appropriately removed from the new system if it
was ever there.

Most of the 2008 issues you see as problems have to do with Leopard & most
will be resolved in future updates. MacBU is hard at work to provide
remedies to those issues which appear to be Office-specific as well, so much
of what you see in the groups should fade away as the updates appear. Bugs
in new releases are common. Keep in mind also that we don't know the
starting condition of the systems where many of these problems are being
reported & often don't have a clear indication of what may actually have
been done to cause/exacerbate the situation or what other software may be
involved. Many people arbitrarily d/l *anything* they find interesting on
the web, for example, and then wonder why other problems "suddenly"
occur:)... and of course you rarely see postings from those who are having
no problems at all - those folks seldom stop by to rub their success in the
face of those who are less fortunate:)

In my case, I have been running 2004 + 2008 in Tiger on my G5 tower for
quite some time without any problems & also have both running in Leopard on
my Intel MBP without major issues - but I am still in 10.5.0 as it seems to
be 10.5.2 that's seeing most of the problems. In fact, many suggest
continuing to keep both versions of Office installed, at least for the short
haul.
