reinstalling Office XP Pro

D

Dick Hoffmann

Word only wanted to save documents as .dot. Since I
thought this was an old solved problem, I uninstalled
Office XP Pro with Add/Remove Programs.

When I try to reinstall, I get the following message:

Cannot launch E:\msi\instmsiW.exe

Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory
request was completed.

Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks,
Dick

Hi, Dick,

Though I don't know for certain, it sounds like either a problem with your
RAM or your virtual memory.

Try cleaning our your temp folders, running a scandisk and defragmentation
and trying the installation again. Make sure Windows is operating with
enough virtual memory, too.

Ran clean and dumped temp Internet files, ran scandisk and
defragged. Have page size set at 630 MB with 256MB RAM
running Win XP Home.
rebooted and got same message.
Additional thoughts?
Thanks,
Dick

Hmm. Can you try copying the CD to your hard drive and running setup from
there?

Oddly enough, it works much better if you are using the
new Office XP disk instead of the old Office 2000 Upgrade
disk from wife's desktop. Sorry.
