If you are not using managed time periods with Project Server 2003 and are
using the Hours of work done per day or per week method of tracking
progress, there may be a way to solve the problem, but it will take some
time to do. First of all, log into PWA and navigate to the Updates page.
Click the View History of Past Task Changes in the sidepane. Look for the
update you mistakenly approved and need to roll back. Write down the names
of the projects and tasks that the team member updated to you and you
mistakenly approved.
Now open the first misapproved project in Microsoft Project Professional.
Right-click in the Duration column and click Insert Column in the shortcut
menu. Select the Stop field and click OK. This field contains the last
date for which actuals are current in the plan for each task. Locate the
first task for the resource in question and note the Stop date. Select a
Stop date for the task that is the ending date for the previous reporting
period. For example, if you are using weekly reporting and the resource
reported actuals for the week of June 13-19, then set the Stop date to June
12, which is the ending date of the previous reporting period. Repeat this
process for each task that was misapproved in each project. This will
probably take some time.
After doing this for each project, you will need to click Collaborate -
Publish - Republish Assignments in each project you mistakenly updated. In
the Republish Assignments dialog, select the "Overwrite actual work entered
by resources" option and click OK. This will "push" the changes to each
user's timesheet in PWA. I must warn you, however, that "rolling back" the
actuals for this resource may conflict with actuals approved for other
resources. Sorry there is no default method for doing this. Perhaps
someone else might know of a faster way to do this. Hope this helps.
