Remaining work set to zero in Project but tasks view still shows remaining work

I have set remaining work to zero in several projects, but
under the tasks tab in the web access view the remaining
work is not showing as zero. These tasks were set up
originally as fixed duration tasks to cover maintenance
work for a fiscal year. I am attempting to set these to
zero so that these tasks will not longer show up on the
staffs' time sheet. Two questions:
1) Why wouldn't the remaining work be zero in the
timesheet view?
2) How can I get the tasks on completed projects to no
longer show in timesheet view?

The remaining work of 0 hours is not showing up in each user's timesheet
because you need to "push" the zeroed out task assignments from the project
plan to PWA. To do this, complete the following steps:

1. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments...
2. Select the "Overwrite actual work entered by resources" option
3. Click OK

To remove the completed tasks from each user's timesheet, you have several
options:

Your first option would be to save the completed project as an .mpp file and
then ask your Project Server administrator to delete the project from the
Project Server database. This will remove the assignments for that project
from each user's timesheet. If the project needs to remain in the database
for historical purposes, then you will need to instruct each user to hide
the completed tasks from their timesheet by clicking the task and then
clicking the Hide button. Hope this helps.

Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks for the timely response. I attempted to do the
steps in your reply, and all seemed to be going fine,
except I received a spooler error "SYSTEM ERROR
(0X80004005)" on the project I was attempting to republish
assignments. Any idea what causes this error and what to
do when you get it?

Dan

Dale,

I just republished assignments on another project in which
the remaining work was set to zero and did not get a
spooler error and the tasks still show time remaining.

We are seeing this problem as well and has become cronic in many of our projects. Our senario is a little different in that a user wants to zero out a task due to no longer needing to complete the work. When they zero out the task and submit through PWA their timesheet still shows work to be done.
