Reminder about discontinuation of gateway with Mactopia

P

Patty Winter

Just a reminder to those of you who are responding to postings
from Bob, John, and other volunteer MS Word support people: they
can't see your postings to this group any more. You'll need to
go over to MS's Mactopia forums and post there. We haven't gotten
any postings from Mactopia in this group since Microsoft removed
the gateway last Sunday, and I've seen no evidence that John, Bob,
et al are still participating in this group directly. We Usenetters
are free to keep helping each other, but we won't have the benefit
of their expertise.

Well it's only partially true... Some of the MVPs are still checking
the nntp groups.

As I mentioned several times, I was talking about *this* group. I
wouldn't presume to say whether any MVPs are participating in other
Usenet-based groups about MS products, because I haven't checked any
others recently.

Have you seen any postings from any of them in *this* group since
June 6th? I haven't, so AFAIK, my comments are accurate.

Well, I'm an MVP for Office Mac and I'm here :)
It's true that I don't post as much here as the other MVPs you listed
but when I come here, John has usually done most of the heavy lifting
;-)
I can't say what the other folks will eventually do, but I suspect some
others might also come here on occasions.
The frequency of the visits might be less than what it used to be
though since most of the traffic is now on the MacTopia groups.

Most that were using Probably haven't signed up for Mactopia. All the
Reminder ... is PC Centric and they don't care about the Mac users.
(They are a non-entity so far as MS is Concerned).

If I had not found NoSquint for FireFox and SeaMonkey I would have been
gone after 15 years.

Now I am putting up with my replies showing up above the post I am
supposed to be replying to

that insufferable Data cache is empty problem that last 2-3 hours at a time.

The only Forum that's worse is the Jive Clearspace Forum Software Adobe
uses. (Its about 5 versions behind and they refuse to update it).

If they are forcing people to use such. web based forums they need to
be written correctly, work right, and if bugs are found they need to fix
them ASAP. otherwise people will just quit bothering, and go to some
other software where they can have a decent experience getting answers
to problems. I realize things can be perfect. but problems should be on
going and persist day after day.

Super! Maybe you can help those two folks who have posted queries
since the cutoff.

I can't say what the other folks will eventually do, but I suspect some
others might also come here on occasions.

That would be great, I hope they do.

Well MacTopia sure has its flaws (a good share of them :-> ), but it's
not PC-centric.
"Answers" is though :-\

I wasn't referring to Mactopia being so .
I was referring to reminder messages from NNTP. They all pointed to
Answers and no mention ever of Mactopia.

True!! A big mistake to post these in the Mac groups.
The localized Mac groups had it event worse. In the French group for
instance, people were told to go to a group, which was closed within
days, with a redirection to Answers where there aren't any Mac group :->

Now you understand.

Of believe me, I do Phillip. I sure do.
As a heavy user of the newsgroups, I sure am NOT happy about
transitionning to the MacTopia forums and the mess with the
international groups is infuriating to many.
Right now, I'm just trying to find the best solution to keep everything
sort of working together.
Believe me, all MVPs have been quite vocal about this.

Perhaps if you knew some of the folks by email, come to the NNTP groups
through this server or eternal-september, Then have them pass the word
along. They could hangout on usenet, until they come up with something
the web based forums

Well believe me, we have ways to communicate with each other and free
usenet access has been raised. We'll see who will come (and when) :-\
