Reminders Won't Display

Running XP, Outlook V. 10.2605.2605

Problem: Appointment reminders won't display until Outlook
is closed and reopened. Setting selected are:

Tools, Options, Other, Advanced Options, Reminder Options,
When a reminder comes due: both boxes are checked (Display
the reminder and Play the reminder sound: reminder.wav).

Anyone have suggestions?
