Remote Connecting to Access database

Firstly, when I post I always check to be notified of responses to a thread.
Recently I have received no notifications even through there have been
postings. Am I the only one this is happening to? This is why I am starting a
new question and not continuing a previous thread.

My questions:

I am envisioning a situation where a remote user connects through remote
desktop to an Access backend database located on a Windows 2003 server. The
remote user has a frontend installed in her folder on the same server.

When the backend is going to be connected to by a few users, does the
backend need to be in a "shared" folder on the server. I do not even know if
there are shared folders on a server. Servers are not normally my thing.

In an earlier thread there was discussion of dropped packets and corrupted
data if there was insufficient speed. Does this risk apply if the connection
is through remote desktop and both the database backend and frontend are
located on the same server?

Thank you for any insight.

If you have more than the occasional question here and there, it would be
wise to use a newsreader instead of the web interface. They are much faster
to connect and post with and are less prone to problems. I don't know of any
that will inform you, but they all have a method to quickly look at answers
to your posts.

Yes, and multiple users need to have all permissions with the exception of
Full Control.

No. RDP and terminal services do not actually connect to data on your
workstation. All the data and processing reside on the server, so there is
little chance of corruption.

something internal to my company.

Thank you for your reply. It answered my question perfectly. In explaining it
to my clients I used the analogy of a TV remote which only connects to turn
off/on, adjust volume etc but does not transmit programming in contrast to a
TV station broadcasting over the air signals. Hopefully the metaphor is
faithful to the RDP and WAN/LAN processes.

Re the notifications - I would have no problems if there were not a checkbox
in the "Post" form labeled "Notify me of replies". It used to work and now it
does not. Most forums have this service and it is enormously helpful in
following a thread. I will try to find someone to write to but if you have
any leverage it might be helpful.

Thank you so much for your assistance.

Thank you so much for responding. The "Notify me of replies" checkbox used to
be effective and it was so very helpful. Most forums have something similar
and it really helps the process. I think we must agitate...

I did learn some valuable things from the discussion. I am so grateful to
the participants.

Mary,

The problem you are having with "Notify me of replies" is not unique. It has
been recently reported as a new bug by thousands of users. I don't use web
interfaces because of their continued problems like this. Even the most
rudimentary newsreader has a View Replies to my posts feature, and they are
so much faster that for me, there's never even a slightest though of using a
browser if I can use a newsreader.
