What Microsoft office product do I need to use remote desktop on my iMac running Snowleopard? Do I need the full version of Office or does home and student version contain the needed software?

Can you please clarify what you are trying to do. Remote Desktop is for
accessing a "remote" desktop. Are you trying to run Office on your Mac,
or with your Mac access a "remote" desktop? Or something else?

as a free download regardless of edition:
