Remote Outlook

An attempt to gain remote access to my work outlook from my laptop, hoping
for a simple "mirror", resulted in the entire "inbox" being transferred to my
remote computer.... and the host inbox is now empty. The question is two
sided... can I return the "inbox" folder to the host and can I have the
locations operate in concert? I am using a VPN on a broadband connection and
configured my "in" and "out" servers exactly as seen on my office config.

Which would be...?
What version of Outlook are you using?
What mail account type are you using?

System is XP on both units...
Outlook 2003 on both...
POP3 in, SMTP out

In that case you can tick the option to leave a copy on the server for X
number of days. You can set this in the More Settings... page of your
account configuration. Placing them back on the server is not supported by
the POP3 protocol.

That seems to be the trick... I notice an option to leave all on server until
deleted, this is more closely aligned with my needs. Is there a way to copy
the inbox from my remote site and re-install directly to my server?

No, unless you can access the mail server and are able to import from
pst-files (or any other format Outlook can export to). As I said; the POP3
mail protocol itself doesn's support this.
