Synchronize using Remote Desktop Connection

Hello,

I've been reading older posts and seem to be going in circles. I would
appreciate some direction.

I have a replicated database at my office and on a laptop. Data is being
updated as I drive to a remote location. I would like to sync the database
right before I go into a meeting to get the latest changes. The laptop is
using a wireless aircard. I would prefer to sync instead of stay connected
due to possible connection problems. Both computers are using Access 2007
with the database using 2003 file structure. My router has VPN capability,
but it looks like Remote Desktop Connection (without a server) would work.

So, I guess what I'm looking for is "Remote Sync" verses "Remote Access".

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

hmmm well replication is for when people are independently adding/removing
records in a non shared Back End.....and then the BEs need to be synced.

if all you want to do is see the lastest data - and won't be changing
anything - then really all you need is someone to email you a copy of the BE
file zipped...unzip it and put into your laptop....

normally people get the latest version via a local replication when in the
main office - take that laptop with them - do their thing - and then
replicate when they are returned back in the main office...

you mention driving somewhere and getting data "right before the meeting" -
- like you also need a long distance connection to the BE; is the data
changing that much that the change during the drive is relevant?? other than
a VPN to it, or having someone email the BE file to you - - am not sure what
solution there is....use the GoToMyPC.com service - find the BE file and copy
it to your laptop...then you have the latest data; but only if you really
are not replicating - - only if you just want to view the latest info.....or
maybe try a replication sync via GoToMyPC .....

Remote Desktop is not going to help.

You would need to implemente either indirect or Internet replication
over your VPN. It's not particularly straightforward. The key point
is that if you're going to synch across the wire, you cannot use
DIRECT synchronization (i.e., the method used when you synch via the
Access user interface).

See the Jet Replication Wiki for all things Jet Replication:
