Remove Actions when Permission Disabled

D

David H.

Whenever I remove Permissions to items in the Security Templates, the Actions
are still displayed. For example I removed the ability to "Assign myself to
an existing task". The option is still there and comes up with a screen for
you to attempt to assign yourself to the task. You do not know that it
doesn't work until you clidk on "Assign me to Task", then discover that you
have to select from the Project Listing, which of course doesn't contain
anything. This is very clunky. The option should simply be removed or
disabled completely. I have seen this in other areas as well.

Denying this permission at the highest level on the Server Configuration
page will not make this option disappear in the actions pane on the View My
Tasks page. On the other hand, if you set the permission to either Deny or
to Not Allowed (neither Allow or Deny is selected) for the Groups from whom
you wish to hide this option, then the option will disappear completely from
the actions pane for every member of that Group. For example, to make the
option disappear for users in the Team Members group, do the following:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Manage Users and Groups
3. Click the Groups link in the actions pane
4. Select the Team Members group and click the Modify Group button
5. In the Global Permissions grid, set the New Task Assignment permission
to Denied or Not Allowed
6. Click the Save Changes button

Hope this helps.

David:

Although Dale has given you the correct solution, your expectation that
changing the security templates as a solution is a non-starter. Changing the
templates will only change permissions for new users going forward after
they're properly applied. In general, you should copy these and create new
ones rather than change the existing templates.

Do you think that every post you make should qualify as a suggestion for
Microsoft?
