Remove' cascading unsaved documents'

Every time I close this document it is replaced by No 2,3 or4 etc. I cannot
get it off the screen. The PC is a 1998 version or possibly 1995 MS Works

Your problem description is rather inadequate.

1. Are you talking about Word or Works? This is a Word newsgroup; Works
questions should be addressed to a Works newsgroup.

2. If you're talking about the default document name, shown in the
application's title bar when a new document is created, then there's no way
to change this. It will show Document1 for the first document you create
during a session. Document2 for the second, and so on. This is an internal
requirement and has to do with managing the temp files Word maintains during
editing.

If this is not what you mean, then please describe the problem in more
detail. IN THE APPROPRIATE GROUP.

Perhaps try this:

Start your version of Works, likely to be the version 4.x

(Possible update/upgrades from here :

Now,

Let's start Works

Choose the Works word processor tool.

This opens a blank document named Unsaved Document 1 ?

File>Save As test.wps.

File>Close.

Start the Works word processor

This opens a blank document named Unsaved Document 2
and subsequent repeats of the above operation opens an
increasingly numbered version of the blank document (template)?

The following is one way to avoid this happening:

Start Works

At the Task Launcher screen choose to Cancel.

Select the File menu and the option New, or choose the particular
file from the MRU (Most Recent Used) if it is available i.e test.wps.

You can also choose the 'Existing Documents' option from the Task
Launcher and again that shows you a list of your files.

Alternatively, you may use the File>Open option to open existing files
stored elsewhere on your system.
