Remove index higlight

When Word creates an index, it creates it as a form field (I think). The
index becomes shaded if a selection is made on an index page.

How can the shading be turned off? I tried turning off shading using the
Forms toolbar command but it doesn't do anything.

Word > Preferences > View > Field Shading > Never. m.
