Hi I am afraid this question relates to MS Office 2003 on a PC but I cam ti this forum via my mac.
Anyway I am managing a very large spreadsheet at work and have created three columns of values (numbers) and need to have a total at the bottom. I know how to sum a column but for some reason the total was wrong. On investigating it seems that a large number of individual cells in the column are numbers stored as text and as such are not included in the totals.
Without going into each individual cell and converting each number into a number how can I convert them all at once. I have tried formatting all of the cells as number or fractions but it is not removing the errors???

As you discovered, changing display formatting has nothing to do with
how a value is stored in a cell.

One way to correct the problem:

- Select an empty cell
- Copy the cell
- Select your "numbers"
- Choose Edit/Paste Special, selecting the Values and Add
radio buttons. Click OK.
