Remove numbered styles

What is the most effective and quickest way to remove all numbering from
styles either to have none at all or to restart and have a different
numbering style

To clear the numbering from a style, use the Modify Style dialog box. In the
dialog box, click Format, Numbering, click the "None" option, OK, OK.

The specific steps involved in editing the numbering depends on your version
